Ocmulgee River Closed until further notice

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) -Officials are advising the public that the water speed at Ocmulgee River are unsafe, prompting it to close until further notice.

Access to the Ocmulgee River, from Amerson River Park (2551 Pierce Drive), is closed. As of Friday afternoon, it was flowing at 3,000 cubic feet per second.

Fire Chief Shane Edwards says, “We’ve been looking at the speed of the river, and our Dive Team has already had to help a couple get off the river. It’s just not safe to have people boating and floating through this area. We know this is a busy weekend for people to be on the river, but our first priority is making sure people are safe.”

Once the speed drops to 2,000 cubic feet per second, it will reopen.
