FORT VALLEY , Georgia (KBTV) -Fort Valley State University (FVSU) and Fresno Unified School District (FUSD), California’s third-largest district, have launched a groundbreaking dual enrollment partnership to expand college opportunities for high school students.
Beginning this fall, 70 juniors and seniors from Sunnyside and McLane High Schools in Fresno will take live, virtual college-level courses through FVSU. The program allows students to earn up to 13 transferable college credits and 43 high school credits at no cost, fully funded by FUSD. A nine-day college tour, including a visit to FVSU’s campus in Georgia, is also included.

“We are proud to bring the HBCU experience to the West Coast and expand pathways to higher education for students who may not have previously considered this option,” said FVSU President Paul A. Jones, Ph.D.
The program provides wraparound support including tutoring, technical assistance, and dedicated student success specialists. Future expansion will include additional cohorts and courses in agriculture and STEM.
“This new partnership will expand college dual enrollment opportunities for Fresno Unified students and highlight the educational and cultural benefits HBCUs offer,” said FUSD Superintendent Misty Her.
