UPDATE: Deputy involved shooting leaves Jeffersonville Road shooting suspect dead

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one woman dead and a man critically injured Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE: The shooting suspect, Catrell Tywan Ford was spotted at a convenient store at the intersection of Spring Street and Riverside Drive at 9:44pm. After asked to stop, Ford ran into a wooded area, leading deputies on a foot pursuit. There was an exchange of gunfire shortly after where Ford was wounded. He was taken to a hospital but died. No one else was injured.

Deputies were called around 4:40 p.m. to the parking lot of the Family Dollar on Jeffersonville Road. 56-year-old Regina Darlene Smith was found unresponsive in a Nissan Rogue and pronounced dead at the scene. A 79 year old man in the vehicle was also shot and taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Authorities believe the shooting may have stemmed from a prior car accident. Deputies from Bibb and Jones counties are searching for a suspect.
