Bibb County Schools Show Strong Gains as Howard High Exits State Watch List

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – Bibb County schools are showing measurable academic progress following the Georgia Department of Education’s latest Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) updates.

The district announced that Howard High School has officially exited TSI status, signaling sustained improvement in student performance and school leadership. State education leaders say the achievement reflects focused instruction, strong leadership, and strategic support.

Six elementary schools — Bernd, Bruce, Ingram-Pye, Southfield, Union, and Williams — were also recognized by the Georgia Department of Education for significant progress on their school improvement plans and College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores.

“These outcomes affirm what is possible when systems are aligned and leaders execute with purpose,” said Dr. Tamara Candis, associate superintendent of schools. She credited targeted leadership coaching, professional learning communities, instructional rounds, and data-driven decision-making for recent gains, including improved Georgia Milestones results.

The district says it remains committed to continuous improvement across all campuses. McKibben Lane Elementary was identified for targeted support related to student progress for learners with disabilities and will receive additional, differentiated assistance while continuing to build on other academic gains.

More detailed CCRPI highlights for each school are available on the Bibb County School District website.
