Wellness Wednesday: Piedmont Macon health experts shares how to stay safe during flu season

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports the 2025-2026 flu season has seen a widespread of activity and urges everyone 6 months or older to get vaccinated.

According to the CDC, there is an estimate of at least 7,500,000 illnesses, 81,000 hospitalizations, and 3,100 deaths from flu so far. Prescription flu antiviral drugs that treats flu is available. Medical experts encourage patients to start it as early as possible and are especially important for patients at higher risk for flu-related complications.

KBTV’s Dr. Karlisha Booze talked with Piedmont Macon’s Nurse Practitioner, Justin Connelly, about things people can do to avoid the flu on Wellness Wednesday. Connelly also shared his experiences firsthand working in the ER as far symptoms.
