MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – A Bibb County Sheriff deputy is dead and one is injured after a physical altercation with an inmate.
Reports state that inmate 22 year old Albert Dewitt Booze was moved to another cellblock after causing disciplinary issues. Around 2:26a.m., Deputy Christopher Wilson Knight and Deputy Jerome Michael Williams were escorting Booze to an observation cell after reports of him having suicide thoughts. While transporting him, Booze and one of the deputies began to fight. Booze took a knife from the deputy and used it to kill him.
Both deputies were taken to the Atrium Health Navicent by ambulance. Deputy Knight was pronounced dead at around 3:46a.m. Deputy Jerome Williams received medical treatment for his injuries and was released.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigations will investigate the Criminal Investigation into the death of Deputy Knight.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards will conduct an internal investigation to determine if the actions taken in this incident were in accordance with sheriff’s office policy.
Once the Criminal Investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to District Attorney Anita Howard.
Deputy Knight worked at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office since 2018. Deputy Williams had been working the sheriff’s office since November 2020.
