What’s happening weekend: 25th Pan African Festival, Shan’s Shindigz grand opening, Stop the killing rally

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – There was a lot of happenings over the weekend in middle Georgia.

Karli Bee TV stopped by the Macon Coliseum to check out the 25th Pan African Festival. Dozens of vendors that featured art, culture and history were set up. Many people from all areas also relaxed in their lawn chairs to watch the different performances that hit the stage.

Tubman Museum Executive Director, Harold Young says it is a great time to come together as one. The festival was held on Saturday and Sunday.

Shan’s Shindigz, a new venue, opened up on Saturday. The one stop shop allows customers to simply book a reservation to host an event and the owner, Shannon Davis handles the rest. Davis says she makes the planning process easy for customers by booking the catering, Dj’s, decorating, and more.

Coroner Leon Jones, Commissioner Bill Howell, Bob Fickling, and other community members hosted a “Stop the killing rally” on Saturday to spread awareness of gun violence. Volunteers held signs at the corner of Montpelier Avenue and Pio Nono Avenue as cars honked their horns. Organizers say the rallies will continue on each side of Macon every weekend until the killings stop.
