Bibb County Escaped inmate dies

MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – A Bibb County inmate who escaped from Atrium Health Navicent and later captured, has died.

According to Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones, 20 year old Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett died at 5:57am Tuesday morning. Barrett died from hypothermia and diabetes. Barrett was in custody at the Bibb County LEC for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault charges. Here’s a timeline of events prior to Barrett’s death.

Barrett was taken to the Atrium Health Navicent for a medical issue. On Friday, February 4, 2022 at around 4:00p.m. while receiving care at the hospital, Barrett went in the hospital’s restroom and climbed through the ceiling and made his way to an adjacent hallway. Barrett escaped from the hospital and was last seen running towards High Street. An alert was put out for the escapee.

On Sunday, February 6, 2022, at around 6:47a.m., Barrett showed up at his sister’s home and had a medical emergency. The sister immediately contacted the Macon-Bibb 911 Center. Barrett was taken to the hospital where he was listed to be in critical condition. Barrett was pronounced deceased by Coroner Leon Jones on Tuesday morning.
