HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (KBTV)- The Houston County School District will recognize National School Counseling Week 2022 on February 7 – 11. This year’s theme is “School Counseling: Better Together.”
National School Counseling Week focuses public attention on the unique contributions of school counselors. Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), this week highlights the impact school counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
Dr. Zabrina Cannady, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services with the Houston County School District, shares “School counselors play a vital role in each of our 39 campuses within the District.” “These counselors work closely with students to remove barriers to learning, address academic concerns, discuss career options, and build social and emotional skills.”
Houston County School District currently employs approximately 60 counselors. “Our school counselors increase student achievement and also serve as a needed resource for parents, teachers, and administrators. Helping our students examine their abilities, strengths, interests and talents allows them to better understand their potential. We want each of our students to know our counselors are a resource for them and are consistently cheering them on and wanting the best for each student,” adds Cannady.
