HOUSTON COUNTY, Georgia (KBTV)- Dawn Hardy, a teacher from David Perdue Primary School, has been named the 2021-2022 Gifted Teacher of the Year for the Houston County School District.
Hardy says “I am so honored to be a part of the Houston County gifted community. This phenomenal team of people inspires children to tackle challenges and rise to meet high expectations every day. This team values creative thinking and constructs extraordinary opportunities for students to excel. I am proud to say I am a part of this exceptional group of people.”
Mrs. Hardy teaches second grade gifted classes and serves as the advisor for the STEAM Club. She has been a teacher since 1994 and has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a master’s degree in Elementary Math. She is a NASA trained teacher and loves spending her time learning new ways of teaching. Mrs. Hardy was selected as a NASA MEI Teacher, which allowed her the opportunity to instruct others at the Kennedy Space Center on methods of integrating math, science, and language arts. She also continues to teach and learn through the NASA Resource Center at the Museum of Aviation. She is a wife and mother of three daughters, and she has two grandchildren.
As a token of appreciation, Hardy received gifts from businesses throughout the community in recognition of her achievement. She was also recognized during the March meeting of the Houston County Board of Education.
