HOUSTON COUNTY,GA(KBTV)- Excellence and intelligence has earned twelve Houston County seniors a well-known honor.
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has named twelve Houston County seniors as 2022 Georgia Scholars. Georgia Scholars show excellence in all areas of school life, community activities and in their homes. They carry rigorous course loads during their four years of high school and perform at the highest levels in all courses. These students also successfully participated in interscholastic events and have held active roles in extracurricular activities. Click here to view the full criteria for the program.
The following students were named as Georgia Scholars and will receive a special seal for their diploma:

Haruto Tanaka, Northside High
Ishaan Vyas, Northside High
Alexandra Tirino, Veterans High School
Joseph Cornelius, Veterans High School
William Van Slyke, Veterans High School
Abigayle Williams, Veterans High School

“These Georgia Scholars are leaders not only at their school, but also in our community,” said Olethia Thomas, Director of Gifted Education. “This honor is a reflection of years of hard work and dedication, and we are extremely proud of all they have accomplished.”
A total of 216 students statewide were named as a Georgia Scholar. The Georgia Scholar program is coordinated by the GaDOE Excellence Recognition Office and through local coordinators in school systems across the state.
