MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – Four firefighters from Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, along with a fire apparatus, are set to deploy Monday morning to assist in battling wildfires in Southeast Georgia.
The team will depart around 8:00 a.m. on April 27 from Fire Station #10, located at 800 Oglethorpe Street, and travel to a staging area at the Brantley County Airport.
Fire Chief Shane Edwards said the deployment comes after a request for mutual aid over the weekend. Officials quickly worked to identify personnel and equipment that could respond without affecting local emergency coverage.
“Our brothers and sisters in Southeast Georgia need us to help take care of their families and homes, and we’re ready to be part of that effort,” Edwards said, noting that service levels in Macon-Bibb County will remain unchanged.
Lester Miller praised the firefighters for volunteering to assist another community during a time of need.
“We’re proud of these firefighters for stepping forward and agreeing to support another community and another fire department,” Miller said.
County Manager Keith Moffett also commended the effort, emphasizing the community’s willingness to help others.
“This is what our community does so well: step up and step forward to help in times of need,” Moffett said.
The firefighters are expected to assist crews working to contain ongoing wildfires impacting parts of Southeast Georgia.
