MACON, Georgia (KBTV) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a body was discovered late Sunday night in a wooded area off Houston Road.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the 5200 block of Houston Road around 10:45 p.m. on May 10 after reports of a deceased person found in a homeless encampment south of the roadway.
When patrol deputies arrived, they found the body inside what appeared to be a makeshift shed being used as shelter in the woods.
Investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene and recovered the body. At this time, officials have not identified the person or determined how long the body may have been in the area.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the body will be sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an examination to help determine the person’s identity and the cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing.
